Honda snips Civic sedan prices

BY RON HAMMERTON | 15th Oct 2013

HONDA has tweaked its Civic sedan range and lopped up to $1000 from the price as it attempts to maintain the cracking sales pace of its top seller that is running 61.2 per cent ahead of last year.

Halogen daytime running lights and an illuminated vanity mirror are now standard across the range, along with new black cloth upholstery.

The mid-range Civic VTi-L gains automatic rain sensing wipers and a reversing camera. The VTi-L and VTi-LN (navigation) also add a leather-wrapped steering wheel and six-speaker audio system with two front tweeters.

As well, a new metallic colour choice – Twilight Blue – has been added.

The entry level Civic VTi manual now has a list price of $19,490 – a cut of $1000 – for cars with flat paint. The driveaway price is $21,990, but metallic and pearlescent paint is $575 extra.

The VTi automatic also takes a $1000 haircut, down to $21,790 or $24,290 driveaway.

The prices of upper spec models – the VTi-L, VTi-LN and Sport – have been cut $700 at list price. National driveaway pricing has not been confirmed for these models.

The flagship Civic Hybrid was not included in the latest changes as it received a round of updates, including leather trim and a range of new technologies, back in July.

Honda Civic hatch prices also remain unchanged, kicking off from $20,650 for the VTi-S manual.

Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said the latest upgrade in specification and features for a lower price added “even more value to the popular and loved vehicle”.

Honda is having one of its best sales years for Civic, selling 11,564 sedans and hatches to the end of September, well up on the 7172 units it sold in the first nine months of 2012.

The Civic now had 6.1 per cent of the top-selling small car segment, compared with 4.0 per cent last year,However, it will have to improve on its 863 sales of last month if it is to topple its 12-month record of 17,643 units set in 2007.
