JUST one year ago, Holden launched its first tiny crossover since the Suzuki Ignis-based first-generation Cruze in the early noughties.

This time around, its sub-compact SUV, the Trax, was spawned by the Barina light car, and thanks to Australian consumer's voracious appetite for anything high-riding, the handsome little Trax became a sales winner for the lion brand.

After launching with a 1.8-litre petrol engine as the sole engine choice, Holden wisely listened to feedback and popped its lovely 1.4-litre turbo unit under the bonnet to widen its appeal.

With loads of rivals already on the market and more on the way, is the addition of a new engine enough to keep the Trax on its winning sales streak?
