THE Statesman uses a continuously variable, speed-sensing Variatronic rack and pinion steering system. Power assistance is standard. The system was revised to incorporate more rack travel so the 11.3-metre turning circle could be maintained. The on-centre ratio is 5 per cent slower than the VS Statesman thanks to decreased rack ratio and a longer steering arm. The car is tuned to deliver mild understeer.
