Holden recalls 22,000 Rodeos

HOLDEN is recalling 22,000 RA-series Rodeo light truck variants (model years 2003-2005) in Australia and New Zealand following owner complaints of refuelling-related injuries.

Affecting Rodeos with petrol engines and original equipment fitted tubs (not cab-chassis or diesel-engine models), the problem is known as "fuel flash" – apparently caused by a mixture of air and fuel vapour coming into contact with static electricity built up during the filling process.

GM Holden Executive Director Engineering, Tony Hyde, said the issue occurred because the fuel filler nozzle may be pushed towards the vehicle body during the filling process, where the hose clamp connecting the pipe into the tankdischarges static electricity.

Nineteen incidents involving RA Rodeos have been reported, with minor burns in some cases, Holden said.
