New marketing boss for Holden

BY TERRY MARTIN | 6th Apr 2015

GM HOLDEN has announced the appointment of Geraldine Davys as executive director of marketing, replacing Bill Mott who is preparing to repatriate to GM Europe for an unspecified new assignment.

Previously the marketing director at online comparison service iSelect, Ms Davys officially starts on April 20.

She will join the senior leadership team and report directly to interim chairman and managing director Jeff Rolfs, who will hand over to Mark Bernhard in July.

Mr Mott was brought to Australia in late 2011 to head up the launch of the ill-fated standalone Opel brand here, moving to marketing director soon after General Motors pulled the pin on the under-performing brand after less than a year in the marketplace.

He was subsequently elevated to executive director status in October last year and, with almost two decades’ experience with Opel behind him, is considered a key figure in the ‘Opelisation’ of Holden as its winds down its Australian manufacturing operations and becomes a full-line import brand – sourcing at least a third of its cars from GM Europe – in 2017.

A GM Holden spokesperson told GoAuto that the company was not in a position to discuss his new appointment, which is expected to be based at Opel headquarters in Russelsheim, Germany, and could see him remain a significant conduit between Europe and Australia as Holden stages 24 major new-vehicle launches over the next five years.

Ms Davys, meanwhile, will take responsibility for Holden’s marketing “at a critical time in the brand’s evolution”, according to Mr Rolfs, who will maintain his position as chief financial officer once Mr Bernhard takes the reins.

“Geraldine has the right mix of experience and credentials to help lead our great company,” he said.

“(Her) experience across differing and diverse industries will bring fresh ideas and insights to Holden’s marketing and she will play a critical role in building a bright and successful future for our brand.” Ms Davys had been in the role at iSelect for 15 months before unexpectedly departing in February. She spent the previous nine years with Sensis (Telstra Media), the last four of which were in the capacity of group manager of brand, marketing and digital communications.

She also worked in senior positions at Westpac and Andersen Business Consulting.

“It’s extremely energising to be able to join Holden at this pivotal time and work with a passionate and talented team to build a winning future for one of Australia’s great companies,” Ms Davys said.
