A DEVELOPMENT of Chevrolet's all-alloy, 5.7-litre pushrod V8 that first appeared in Commodore for the VTII in July, 1999, Monaro CV8's engine produces the same peak power figure of 225kW at 5200rpm and the same peak torque figure of 460Nm at 4400rpm as Holden's previous performance flagship, the Commodore SS. This is despite some fairly major induction changes to allow fitting of Monaro's new projector-style headlights, which protrude more deeply into the engine bay. While they were at it, Holden engineers took the opportunity to give the Chev engine a deeper, more pleasing induction note. The Gen III engine features sequential fuel-injection, twin knock control sensors, six-bolt main bearings, an ignition coil per cylinder and high 10.0:1 compression.
