Holden Sandman V8 Supercar helps fight cancer

V8 SUPERCAR builder Triple Eight and automotive retailer Autobarn are supporting the work of men's cancer charity Blue September by providing the exclusive Sandman super wagon to promote a month-long awareness campaign.

The campaign is seeking to raise $400,000 to fund early diagnosis equipment for Australian Prostate Cancer Research and the Australian Cancer Research Foundation, headlining the promotional drive with the specially wrapped big-booted V8 Supercar.

Triple Eight racing rolled out the bespoke Sandman wagon in October last year to promote the Red Bull V8 Supercar team, but it has been re-purposed to raise funds for the charity.

Under its cool blue skin, the Sandman is pure supercar with a 475kW V8 sending power to the rear wheels via a six-speed sequential gearbox, and can crack 100km/h from rest in less than 3.0 seconds.

The car was unveiled today at Autobarn Logan City in Queensland where Blue September campaign director Mike Chapman explained “the importance of educating young Aussie men about the early signs of testicular cancer, whilst breaking down current stigmas around men talking about their health issues,” he said.

In March, Holden announced it would resurrect the Sandman nameplate with a new road-going and limited edition Commodore Sportwagon and Ute, but the Blue September version is strictly a one-off for the track and stage only.
