HOLDEN is blending form and function with its attractive new Sportwagon to widen the appeal of the hauler, which has previously been bought almost exclusively by fleets. Instead of basing the wagon on the long-wheelbase Statesman platform, which allowed for a massive cargo area, Holden decided to build the Sportwagon off the shorter Commodore base to create a vehicle with athletic proportions and a sloping back that looks more like a coupe than a traditional wagon. You can get the Sportwagon in all the same flavours as the sedan and there is even a manual SS model for rev-head families. Holden is pitching the Sportwagon as a stylish and sensible alternative to an SUV. It just might be onto something.
