Holden’s first limited edition VZ

HOLDEN’S first limited edition version of the VZ Commodore will go on sale December 1, just months after Australia’s biggest selling car received its Alloytec heart transplant in late August.

As per normal with Holden’s limited edition offerings, this latest Lumina offers extra equipment at a lower price than the standard model it is based on.

In this case it is the base model Executive, the Lumina receiving such blandishments as sports suspension, larger 17-inch alloys, body colour mouldings, chrome exhaust tip, rear spoilers on sedans and roof racks on the wagon.

Interior appointments include air-conditioning, new seat and door trim, leather steering wheel, gear selector and handbrake handle, six-disc in-dash CD and an upgraded 12-function trip computer.

Side impact airbags and rear parking sensors are optional on the sedan only, while side impact airbags are optional on the wagon.

Holden says all the extra standard equipment adds up to more than $5000 in extra value, and pricing certainly aids that contention.

The Lumina sedan retails for $33,690, compared to the standard price of $34,410 with air-conditioning, while the wagon is $35,630 compared to the Exec wagon (with air).

One thing that doesn’t change is the drivetrain, which continues with the 175kW version of the new Alloytec 3.6-litre V6 mated to the standard four-speed auto transmission.

Holden plans to build 3500 Luminas.
