First look: Holden adds VY II Equipe

BY MALCOLM LIVERMORE | 28th Apr 2004

HOLDEN is delivering a timely boost for Commodore sales in May with the launch of the VY II limited edition Equipe.

Based on the VYII Commodore V6 auto Executive sedan and wagon, it goes on sale May 7.

Equipe adds seven-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels (but steel spare wheel), body colour mirrors, side mouldings and door handles, chrome exhaust extension, roof rack for the wagon and rear park assist for the sedan.

Inside there is standard air-conditioning, six-disc in-dash CD player, power windows all round and unique seat and door trim fabrics.

Side impact airbags are a $520 option.

With a claimed $5000 worth of extras over Executive, Equipe sedan retails for $33,290 and the wagon for $35,210.

Those prices are cheaper than standard auto Executive with air-conditioning, which are $34,990 (sedan) and $36,910 (wagon).

Equipe arrives at a good time for Commodore. Sales to the end of March 2004 were 19,070, the lowest number for that period since 2000, when 17,614 were sold.

A total of 4000 Equipes will be built - 3400 sedans and 600 wagons.
