Colorado cuts loose

HOLDEN has released pricing and details of its Colorado workhorse ute, which replaces the long-running Rodeo nameplate.

The Colorado is essentially a facelifted version of the Rodeo ute. As revealed by GoAuto in March, Holden lost the right to use the Rodeo name following the formal separation between Isuzu and its own parent company General Motors.

It will offer 30 variations of the new ute, starting off with the bare and basic 2.4-litre DX 4x2 cab-chassis at $19,990 and running through to the fully-loaded 3.0-litre turbo diesel 4x4 LT-R crew cab at $45,990.

However, the new price does include airconditioning, which was previously a $2000 option on the base model.

The LT-R is a new, so-called ‘sports’ variant available as a 4x2 or 4x4 and featuring sports bars, side steps, front foglights, 16-inch alloy wheels and sports interior trim. The 4x2 LT-R also comes standard with Bluetooth capability and rear parking sensors.

The Colorado will be offered with the same powerplants as the Rodeo, including the 2.4-litre petrol four, the Australian-made Alloytec 3.6-litre V6 and a 3.0-litre diesel four-cylinder.

All Colorados feature driver and passenger airbags, but the base DX and 4x2 LX variants still don’t get anti-skid brakes.

That feature is reserved for the LT-R and all LX 4x4 models. Electronic stability control is not available. GM Holden Marketing Manager, Teresa Basile, said the Colorado range had something for everyone.

“The Colorado is built tough with up to three tonnes of towing capability,” she said. “With over 30 combinations of model, powertrain, cabin, ride height and body style, there’s a Colorado to tackle any job.”
