HOLDEN has run the Captiva seven-seater as a segment price leader for much of its lifespan and as a result has sales numbers to please the bean-counters, but it’s no segment leader in any other respect.

With Mazda, Hyundai, Kia, Mitsubishi and Toyota muscling back into the segment with newer product, Holden has had to sharpen the pricing pencil and throw plenty of after-sales sweeteners to keep the Korean-sourced Captiva in the hunt.

Well-equipped and a genuine seven-seater, the Captiva is at the end of its lifespan – Holden has announce that the US-sourced Acadia will replace it in the line-up in 2018 – and it shows in many areas, but it remains a sales winner for Holden in the competitive large-SUV segment.
