Extra kit for Holden Barina X

HOLDEN is cherry-picking its way back through the alphabet with the Barina X, following the Cruze and Commodore Z Series special editions into Holden showrooms.

The limited edition Barina X – restricted to a build run of 700 this year, according to Holden, is based on the $15,390, plus on-road costs CD hatch and is available to order from this month.

The X edition – so identified by the X in lieu of the CD badge – is similar to the Trio special edition on the same model last year, claiming to add more than $2500 worth of extra gear for an additional $1250 on the asking price.

This brings the price of the X to $16,640 in five-speed manual guise and $18,840 for the six-speed auto.

Top spot on the added extras list is the app-based MyLink infotainment system – available on the CDX and RS – giving the driver Bluetooth connectivity for phone and music, as well as integrated in-car audio apps.

Sat-nav is also part of the MyLink system by way of the BringGo navigation app, which users need to buy separately and requires data coverage to operate.

Also on the list is an electric sunroof, front fog-lights, and 16-inch grey alloy wheels.

Holden’s new executive director of marketing Geraldine Davys said the special edition Barina X would appeal to savvy drivers looking to stay connected whilst on the move.

“Barina has always been a stylish light car, and now, with the introduction of Barina ‘X’ and the inclusion of MyLink, it delivers even more technology and features, without the premium price tag,” she said.

“The addition of 16 inch alloy wheels and stylish decals brings an extra level of excitement and flair to the Barina, in what is a very compelling overall package.”Holden would be hoping for a bump in Barina sales from the X, with 1240 units since the start of the year to sit seventh in the segment, behind the Mazda2, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai i20, Suzuki Swift, Honda’s Jazz and the Volkswagen Polo.

It’s sales are down 5.1 per cent on its first quarter 2014 performance.
