Holden's Barina gains limited-run Trio pack

BY TUNG NGUYEN | 22nd Oct 2014

HOLDEN has revealed an optional limited-run Barina package, adding over $2000 worth of extra kit for a $1000 price premium.

Dubbed the Trio pack, the extra gear is available on all Barina CD models, with either manual or automatic transmissions, and will come equipped with front fog-lights and an electric sunroof to differentiate them from the standard base variant.

The special edition will also feature the MyLink infotainment system – already available on the mid-tier CDX and top-spec Barina RS variants – making the optional Trio pack the only way to get Holden's seven-inch, app-enabled touchscreen on entry-level Barina models.

Like most modern infotainment systems, Holden's MyLink allows users to connect smartphones via Bluetooth to stream media and allow for hands-free calling.

MyLink also runs in-car apps such as Pandora, Stitcher, TuneIn radio and BringGo.

Holden director of marketing Bill Mott said the Trio will appeal to “youthful” drivers looking to stay connected.

“The introduction of MyLink gives drivers a wealth of technology at their fingertips, and will allow them to experience a premium feature, without the premium price,” he said.

Available from October 20, the Trio will be limited to just 450 units for the remainder of 2014.

Prices for the Holden Barina start at $15,390, before on-road costs, for the 1.6-litre CD manual hatchback, with the automatic transmission a $2200 option and the Trio pack adding another $1000 to the overall price.

The mid-range 1.6-litre CDX starts from $20,090 with automatic transmission as standard and the top-of-the-line 1.4-litre turbocharged RS warmed hatch is available from $21,390.

CD and CDX Barinas are also available in a four-door sedan body-style for an extra $2200.

Holden has sold 388 Barinas in September 2014, a 44.7 per cent drop from the 702 Barinas sold in the same month last year. Year-to-date sales of the Barina are at 5060, compared with 7047 vehicles sold over the same period last year, a drop of 28.7 per cent.
