THE Astra Convertible comes with an impressive list of standard safety equipment, including dual front airbags, seat-mounted side impact airbags, ABS, electronic traction control and ESP (Electronic Stability Program). The front seatbelts are equipped with force limiters and pyrotechnic pretensioners, while all four seating positions are fitted with three-point lap/sash seatbelts. The front seats are fitted with active front head restraints, which move upwards and forwards to meet the head as it moves back, in an effort to reduce whiplash. In a serious frontal collision a pedal release system automatically drops the foot pedals away from the driver to help avoid injuries to lower limbs. The windscreen pillars are reinforced with high-strength steel tubes to compensate for the lack of a proper roof, while additional rollover protection is provided by the steel rear head restraint frames.
