ALL Astra models use a 1.8-litre, twin camshaft, 16-valve, four-cylinder, electronically fuel-injected engine with a cast-iron cylinder block and an alloy head. It employs the standard front-drive format with an east-west location in the engine bay and a front-mounted radiator with an electric cooling fan. The engine is a development of the previous Astra model's powerplant.
