Haval ups H9 large SUV’s safety credentials

BY ROBBIE WALLIS | 26th Apr 2019

CHINESE SUV specialist Haval has boosted the safety credentials of its H9 large SUV range,by introducing autonomous emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and lane departure warning on both of its H9 variants.

The good news for prospective buyers is the additions have been made at no extra cost, with the range still kicking off at $41,990 driveaway for the H9 Lux, up to $45,990 for the range-topping H9 Ultra.

In addition to the new safety kit, the Haval H9 range also comes as standard with features such as tri-zone air conditioning, a rain-sensing sunroof, automatic Xenon headlights and wipers, a reversing camera, park guidance and all-terrain control.

Both H9 variants are offered with the same powertrain, a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder engine outputting 180kW/350Nm, mated to an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

The current H9 is expected to carry over until 2021 when the all-new H9 is expected to arrive, built on the same ladder-frame platform as the all-new Great Wall pick-up revealed at the Shanghai motor show.

Meanwhile, Haval Australia has also added a six-speed automatic version of its entry-level H2 small SUV, forcing a name change for the range-opener from MT to City.

The City continues to start from $19,990 driveaway for the six-speed manual, while opting for the six-speed auto adds an extra $1000, to bring it to $20,990.

Meanwhile, the rest of the range remains steady with the auto-only Premium and Lux checking in at $22,990 and $25,990 respectively.

All versions of the H2 come with a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol four-pot engine producing 110kW at 5600rpm and 210Nm between 2200-4500rpm.

Haval Australia offers a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty across its three-model range, to go with five years of national roadside assistance.

Through the first quarter of 2019, Haval has registered 218 total sales across its model line-up, good enough for a 69.0 per cent increase over the 129 it had managed to the same point last year.

The H2 has been the most popular model of the three with 99 sales – an 83.3 per cent increase year-on-year.
