GWM cuts $4500 from Ora list price

BY MATT BROGAN | 5th Jul 2023

GWM has slashed $4500 from the recommended retail price of its Ora hatch as the all-electric model begins to arrive in Australian dealerships.

The price cut – one of three key decisions to strengthen the appeal of the Ora for Aussie buyers – sees the entry-grade Ora Standard Range retail from $39,990 plus on-rood costs, with state-specific drive-away pricing also altered.

According to GWM, recent decreases in battery technology costs have enabled it to pass on savings to customers, aligning the Ora more closely with entry-level EV rivals including the BYD e6 (from $39,999 +ORC) and MG 4 Excite 51 (from $38,990 +ORC).

GWM will offer the Ora Extended Range from $45,990 +ORC, Ora Ultra from $48,990 +ORC and Ora GT from $51,990 +ORC. Please see below for drive-away pricing.

The Ora Ultra joins the range in response to what GWM says is strong initial customer demand and positive dealer feedback.

Placed between the Ora Extended Range and GT variants, the Ultra adds comfort and convenience features over and above those offered in the Extended Range, including an electric hands-free tailgate, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, six-way electric driver’s seat with memory, front seat heating, ventilation and massage functions, and power adjustable and auto-folding wing mirrors with memory.

The variant adopts the same 63kWh ternary lithium battery pack for a 420km range and like all GWM products is backed by a seven-year / unlimited-kilometre warranty, five-year roadside assistance program and five-year capped price servicing schedule.

Finally, the change in list price and new Ora variant are joined by the offer of a free wall mounted GWM Charging Station for buyers of Extended Range, Ultra and GT variants. The added incentive to “early owners of GWM’s first electric vehicle” is usually valued at $1690 excluding fitment.

GWM will offer the unit for free to customers who have already placed an order for an Ora, the deal further available to buyers who take delivery of a vehicle before September 30 (or while charger stocks last).

Able to be connected to single-phase power, the GWM Charging Station is configured to connect with the GWM Ora and all Type-2 equipped EVs. Also featuring RFID authentication, use of the unit offers secure access to nominated users and “can be easily installed in homes and office spaces”, says GWM.
