New Vanta flagship tops GWM Cannon ute range

BY MATT BROGAN | 17th Nov 2022

GWM’s dual-cab utility range has been enhanced again, with the Cannon line-up receiving a new flagship variant dubbed Vanta.

Priced from $46,490 drive-away, the Cannon Vanta is the third GWM model to adopt the nameplate, joining the H6 and Jolion with similarly high levels of equipment and black-themed styling cues.

The variant is distinguished by black 18-inch alloy wheels, black wing mirrors and door handles, and a blackened radiator grille.

In addition, a black sports bar that extends further along the rear tray enhances the rugged look of the dual-cab utility, which also receives blacked-out badging as a finishing touch.

With the exception of roof rails, the Cannon Vanta adopts all other features of the Cannon X on which it is based, including leather upholstery,  heated front seats, wireless phone charging, 360-degree camera, 7.0-inch colour instrument cluster, automatic anti-glare rear-view mirror and three selectable power assist steering modes.

Like the Cannon X, the Cannon Vanta also features a comprehensive array of standard safety equipment, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and bicycle detection, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign recognition.

GWM’s ute measures in 5410mm long, 1934mm tall and 1886mm wide with a 3230mm wheelbase, making it marginally larger than the equivalent Toyota HiLux in all dimensions.

The model rides on double-wishbone front and leaf-sprung rear suspension, while braking comes courtesy of disc brakes all-round.

All GWM Cannon variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder mill producing 120kW/400Nm, driving all four wheels via an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission.

Fuel economy is rated at 9.4 litres per 100km on the ADR combined cycle, while off-roading is aided by a low-range transfer case, torque on demand four-wheel drive system, hill descent control, hill start assist and a rear differential lock.

The GWM Cannon Vanta is available in a selection of five exterior colours: Pearl White, Crystal Black, Blue Sapphire, Scarlet Red and Pittsburgh Silver.

All Cannon variants are backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and includes five years’ roadside assist and five years’ capped-price servicing.
