Coupe-styled Genesis GV60: Aus price announced

GENESIS recently revealed its GV60 – the Korean luxury brand’s fully-electric medium SUV, which will be introduced Down Under in September – priced from $103,700, plus on-road costs.

It is Genesis’ first dedicated battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). It is said the platform will underpin many new Hyundai Group models in years to come, because it is scalable across various segments and supports 2WD and AWD configurations.

Whereas previous Genesis electrified variants have been adapted from models that have petrol or diesel powerplants this is their first dedicated EV and it’s a coupe-style SUV.

Genesis says the luxurious, zero-emissions GV60 “redefines travel through its advanced long-range, rapid-recharge battery electric technology”. The AWD variant is said to have an optimal range of 470km and, with fast-charging, its battery can be recharged from 10 to 80 per cent in 18 minutes.

The model’s striking and (very fashionable) coupe-inspired crossover silhouette is smartly packaged around the EV-specific E-GMP architecture to provide a spacious and inviting interior that benefits from clever design elements such as a compact dash, flat floor, floating console and slim seats.

The GV60 will be available in luxuriously appointed AWD and Performance AWD variants, both of which are equipped with an extensive Genesis Active Safety Control suite and futuristic technologies such as fingerprint recognition and digital mirrors (they replace physical side mirrors with cameras).

The model is set to launch locally in September as the first of a trio of Genesis EVs arriving this year.

“We are delighted to introduce GV60 – nour first dedicated electric vehicle, as the beginning of Genesis Motor’s journey towards electrification,” the head of Genesis Motors Australia, Connal Yan said.

“In an exciting year for Genesis, GV60 will be closely followed by Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70.

“GV60 applies the Genesis Athletic Elegance philosophy to provide an unprecedented luxury experience on a new dedicated electric platform that delivers all the powerful, emissions-free benefits of an advanced long-range, ultra-rapid charging EV,” he said.

The AWD and Performance AWD variants are specified at a level that what would normally considered part of the brand’s optional Luxury Package, Genesis Motors Australia said.

The GV60 AWD is equipped with a 160kW motor (for its rear wheels) and a 74kW motor (for its front wheels), which provide a total output of 234kW and maximum torque of 605Nm.

The GV60 Performance AWD, in turn, combines 180kW front and 180kW rear motors to deliver a total output of 360kW (when utilising Boost Mode), as well as maximum torque of 700Nm.

Both variants feature a 77.4kWh battery, which provides a driving range of 470km (WLTP) per charge for the AWD and 466km (WLTP) per charge for the Performance AWD.

An efficient rear-wheel-biased e-AWD system features a disconnector actuator system (DAS) that can separate or connect the motor and the drive shaft according to driving conditions.

The system allows the GV60 – or at least its driver – seamlessly switch between RWD and AWD modes to maximise efficiency through the reduction of transmission losses.

A Boost Mode instantly increases the maximum output of the GV60 Performance AWD for 10 seconds. Activated via a button on the steering wheel, Boost Mode enables the top-spec variant to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h in 4.0 seconds (the sprint takes 4.6 seconds without Boost Mode).

Meanwhile, an Active Sound Design (e-ASD) system provides a choice of virtual driving sounds through the GV60’s speakers, it’s synced to the vehicle speed and accelerator inputs.

A 5-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, 8-year warranty on the high-voltage battery, 5-year complimentary servicing, 5-year Genesis To You & valet service, 10-year 24/7 roadside assistance and 10-year complimentary map updates are included in the purchase price of every GV60.

Genesis also offers the choice of 5-year Chargefox subscription or home A/C charger and installation.
