FORD Australia is sending off its GT Falcon in style, producing a limited run of 550 vehicles – 500 for Australia, 50 for New Zealand – under the Ford Performance Vehicles GT F badge. After that, there will be no more.

With more power and performance that any other locally made Ford since the T Model started coming off the Geelong production line in the 1920s, the 351kW GT F has become an instant classic, even before one has reached any owner's grasping hands.

Ford said it put everything it had into this version, to celebrate the end of the line for the GT that stretches back to 1967.

We went to Ford's You Yangs proving ground in Victoria to sample it, and while the sample resembled an appetiser rather than a main meal, we came away with the impression that this might just be the greatest Aussie Ford yet, arriving only two years before the executioner kills off local Ford production forever.
