FORD’S Transit is a true pioneer in the front-engined van market, accumulating almost 50 years of experience in the one-tonne class that it helped create.

Now with seven million-plus sales under its belt, the range splits for the all-new sixth-generation version, beginning with the $37,490 diesel-powered Custom 290S low-roof short-wheelbase three-seater, three-door.

But is the limited range to be sold here, with no auto transmission even an option, going to cut it in the eyes of tradies against the Hyundai iLoad, Toyota HiAce and Renault Trafic?
