First look: Transit turns driver friendly

BY NEIL MCDONALD | 25th Jan 2006

AS THE world turned its attention to the Ford Motor Co this week, the company revealed another element of its "way forward" in the form of an updated Transit van.

The revised Transit includes a more driver-friendly interior and, in the powertrain department, no fewer than six new diesels and one LPG-compatible petrol engine.

The diesel options include new 2.2-litre and 2.4-litre Duratorq TDCi diesels – the first dedicated commercial vehicle powertrains to be developed as part of the partnership between Ford and PSA Peugeot Citroen – paired with either five-speed or six-speed manual transmissions.

The vehicle is due in Australia mid-year.
