Supplier strike halts Ford production

A STRIKE at a major component supplier will halt production at Ford Australia’s Campbellfield and Geelong plants from today.

The industrial action at plastic parts supplier Venture Industries led to a shut-down at Ford’s two production facilities, with 1250 workers stood down as of tomorrow.

Ford Australia released a statement explaining the situation this afternoon.

“The cessation of parts delivery from Venture will result in the company shutting down part of its assembly, stamping and engine plants from close of business of August 23 until the supply of parts from Venture resumes,” read the statement.

Venture supplies more than 1500 parts to Ford Australia, including front bumpers, instrument panels, centre consoles and door panels.



Workers at Venture’s Campbellfield plant have mounted indefinite industrial action today.

Unions representing the workers say they will not to return to work until the company pays $25 million in entitlements owed to them.

Holden told GoAuto yesterday it would not be affected by the action at Venture, while Toyota could not be reached for comment.
