TAKE or leave everything we say about the new Ford Mustang because it doesn't matter how sharp the pricing, how good the looks, how fast it goes or how it handles, you can’t have one, at least not for a year or so.

Ford’s entire 2016 allocation has gone, with all 4000 Mustangs in the first batch spoken for before the first right-hand drive car had even been completed.

That is a serious vote of confidence from Australian Mustang maniacs, but the new model has now officially launched on local soil and, as the deliveries slowly trickle out to homes around the country, their new owners will be realising that they have snapped up one of the automotive bargains of the decade.

If you were thinking of splashing out for one of the first new-generation Mustangs but could not quite convince yourself it was worth the wait, call the farrier, have them fit you with draught-horse-sized shoe and prepare to kick yourself.
