FORD Australia is back in the medium segment, with a sleek new Mondeo. It is a different car to the last Mondeo which rolled out of showrooms in 2002, with far more interior space, an upgraded interior and more of an emphasis on driving dynamics. Style is also critical and the new Mondeo is the first car in the Blue Oval stable to wear the new ‘kinetic’ design language that will soon spread through the range. Ford Australia is giving its comeback kid every chance of success with a super-sharp entry price for the base model LX. A standard six-speed automatic, seven airbags and electronic stability control make it an attractive proposition. A 2.3-litre petrol engine powers the base car and Zetec model, while a 2.0-litre diesel TDCi model is also available. Ford Australia is also leveraging the XR5 Turbo nameplate with the Mondeo, applying it to a 2.5-litre Turbo model that tops the range. The Mondeo range consists of both four-door sedan and five-door hatch models.
