THE Laser/323 hatch luggage compartment is small, though both the 60/40 split rear seatback and (removable) seatbase portions fold forward to increase capacity from 356 litres to 716 litres. It doesn't create a completely flat floor, instead leaving a canal between cargo and seats. The underfloor well holds a full-size alloy wheel and tyre the jack is stored behind the right rear quarter trim. There are no luggage storage areas, save for the shallow tray above the spare wheel. In the hatch's favour, though, is the inclusion of a retractable luggage blind and tie-down hooks. Access to the cargo area is made via the tailgate handle - there is no remote lever in the driver's footwell or button on the central locking keypad.
