IMPROVEMENTS to body rigidity, suspension design and the standard fitment of rear disc brakes point to relatively strong "active" safety characteristics in the Laser SR, though anti-lock brakes are optional. Once a collision becomes inevitable, the front occupants are provided with an airbag and seatbelt webbing clamps and pretensioners. The front seatbelts are also height adjustable to properly fit a wide range of people. The Laser/323 has a rigid triple H structure (frames on the roof, body sides and floor structure) for strength. Interior components are ribbed or padded to offer some protection from head injury. The centre rear seating position receives neither a head restraint nor a three-point seatbelt.
