IS THERE such a thing as a beguiling compact SUV? We never thought it possible, just like we never expected the first-generation Ford Kuga to land on our shores. But we were wrong on both fronts. The German-made, Volvo-engined crossover is a likeable mix of exceptional handling, strong performance, great packaging and excellent value, so it instantly eclipses most of the dull and dreary offerings out there in one suave move. If you’re prepared to put up with an at-times thirsty turbo five-pot petrol engine and a sober interior, we can’t think of a more charming alternative crossover for the money.
