RALLY-inspired production cars are nothing new, but the Ford Focus RS has attempted to reload and reset the breed of compact all-wheel-drive performance models.

In the 1980s, the likes of the Lancia Delta Integrale typified the breed and as the PlayStation generation emerged in the 1990s the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution and Subaru WRX STi thrashed it out.

Now, in the YouTube era of Ken Block viral videos, the Focus RS has been primed to reign.

Or at least that is how Ford wants the story to go. The most hyped-up hot hatchback of 2016 has the on-paper credentials and Instagram celebrity status to crown it the performance model for the people, but does this souped-up Focus really have the shining sporting ability to match its swag?
