THE body structure circa 1994 was re-engineered using computer-aided stress analysis to increase torsional rigidity and strength. Double-sided, alloy-plated high-strength steel is used for most body stampings. Inside, the anti-submarining front seats are designed to prevent vehicle occupants sliding under the seatbelts in the event of an accident. Anti-lock brakes are unavailable. No airbags are provided as standard equipment, with a driver bag optional across the range. No rear head restraints are provided and the centre rear position makes do with an inferior lap-only seatbelt.
