HOLDEN COMMODORE 4D SEDAN (1993-1994)
THE VR Commodore was a significant improvement over earlier models and earned a motoring magazine's car of the year award in 1993. Interior space and equipment level are good but do not quite match the Falcon. The 3.8-litre V6 produces 130kW with good low-speed torque and surprisingly good fuel economy

TOYOTA CAMRY 4D SEDAN (1993-1995)
THE Vienta was at a price disadvantage when new but otherwise is a worthy rival. The 3.0-litre, twin cam V6 combines a healthy 139kW power output with better fuel economy than its larger competitors. Equipment and on-road behaviour are good although the ride does not quite match the Magna.

MITSUBISHI MAGNA 4D SEDAN (1994-1996)
THE TS Magna does not quite match its Ford and Holden rivals for interior space or power, although the 3.0-litre, 120kW V6 is smooth and refined. The Magna's strong points are a well sorted chassis providing very good handling and ride with minimal body roll or understeer.

SUBARU LIBERTY 4D SEDAN (1989-1998)
THE front-wheel drive Liberty's package of ride, handling and steering near the top of the class and good equipment level earned it plenty of accolades. The 2.2-litre, flat four engine is flexible and economical while producing enough power (94kW) to be competitive in performance with its bigger rivals.
