SIX-CYLINDER Forte, S and Futura automatic transmission models are available with the single-fuel LPG option. The alloy-headed, 12-valve, single overhead camshaft, six-cylinder LPG engine uses the sequential multi-point electronic fuel injection controlled by the EEC-V engine management system, as seen in petrol-fuelled versions. It produces slightly less power but more torque, with 143kW at 4500rpm and 362Nm at 2750rpm (the petrol engine develops 157kW at 4900rpm and 357Nm at 3000rpm). LPG-specific cars delete the entire standard fuel system including tank, lines, pump, injectors, fuel rail and charcoal canister. The LPG engine gets revised spark plugs, inductive high-tension leads and a unique engine management processor. LPG capacity is 92 litres in the sedan, 91 litres in the utility and 115 litres in wagon models. Ford says the cruising range with LPG is comparable to petrol on sedans, and improved on station wagons because of the larger tank.
