SATELLITE navigation (pictured) is one example of the increasing use of electronic systems. But there are other examples such as traction control, which the Fairmont Ghia has fitted as standard. The system works by limiting engine torque or by selectively applying the brakes on either rear wheel if wheelspin occurs. As required, the engine management shuts off fuel to an appropriate number of cylinders, leaning air/fuel ratios and retarding the ignition.
