FORD responded to criticism of the independent double wishbone rear suspension's tendency to favour handling over ride, and softened the system to increase comfort. The adoption of 16-inch wheels with higher-profile tyres helped, as did a rework of spring and shock absorber rates. Ford says the rework improves the ride quality - which it does - without compromising handling, particularly over rough roads where the extra absorbency helps. Front suspension is double wishbones also.
