THE Falcon XR6 ute is available with a choice of transmissions, either a five-speed manual or an electronically controlled four-speed automatic with lock-up torque converter. The auto features adaptive-shift technology, which is designed to alter the shift points to reflect your driving style. This gearbox was first seen on the EL Falcon GT and then Tickford-modified Fairlanes but has been fitted to all XR models since the launch of the AU. An "adaptive shift" badge is located to the left of the universal transmission lever to distinguish it from the regular transmission. The lack of a separate power/economy button also serves this end. When mated to the auto, the VCT engine pulls 1950rpm at a constant speed of 100km/h. The final drive ratio in the auto is 3.45:1.
