The latest Fairlane has design cues from Ford's "New Edge" philosophy Ford claims the Fairlane is quieter than ever thanks to special sound insulation materials The squared-off rear roof line brings additional head room The strong feature line along the side of the car is the Fairlane's most obvious AU Falcon-derived styling cue The boot capacity is now 550 litres, a 10 per cent increase helped by non-intrusive hingesLeather trims the interior including the seats, steering wheel, transmission T-bar and park brake handle The traction control on/off switch - a first for the Fairlane - is in the centre of the dash above the radio Ford claims the instrumentation benefits from larger graphics, clearer gauge outlines and better illumination The 250 watt, 11-speaker, six-stack CD player sound system features a mobile phone mute function that channels incoming calls through the speakers Ford says the mounting of engine accessories directly to the block instead of via brackets increases rigidity The sophisticated independent rear suspension is Fairmont Ghia- derived but has been recalibrated for a comfort bias Ford claims the body lateral bending stiffness is 20 per cent greater than before
