THE Explorer's indicator stalk shows its US origins through being located on the left of the height-adjustable steering column. Twisting this stalk brings either front or rear wipers into operation. Front wipers have a step-by-step, twist-grip intermittent function, rather than a separate control. The master light switch is on the dash, to the right of the steering column, and a button in the centre of the instrument panel controls the mini trip computer. This provides information on fuel economy, distance to empty, outside temperature and vehicle orientation (a compass). The cruise control is activated by steering wheel buttons.
