THE Explorer's long body means there is plenty of interior space, while wide opening doors and a low step-in height aid entry and exit. The downside is that interior ergonomics are far from the best in class because of a poor driving position. The Explorer's engine is unsophisticated but willing, but the suspension has never worked as well on Australian roads as hoped, as evidenced by constant refinement over the years. The four-wheel drive system has also been criticised for not reacting quickly enough in slippery situations.
