Melbourne show: Fans flip for Fiat 500

BY DAVID HASSALL | 3rd Mar 2008

AUSTRALIAN enthusiasts have finally seen the new Fiat 500 in the metal after it was unveiled on Friday’s media preview at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.

Having seen photos of the car for the past eight months, Fiat fans have the opportunity to assess the highly anticipated ‘cinquecento’ for themselves – although enough have already been sufficiently convinced by the images to buy the first four months of Australian allocation.

“Preparing for the arrival of the Fiat 500 in Australia is like being at the centre of a whirlwind,” said Fiat Australia general manager David Stone.

“We have been under siege from dealers and customers wanting to place orders and be the first to have a Fiat 500 (while) working flat-out to try and get additional supply.

“There may be bigger and faster cars at Melbourne – but I believe the biggest crowds will be around the new Fiat 500.”
