Frankfurt show: Eterniti teases Hemera super-SUV

BY MARTON PETTENDY | 17th Aug 2011

THE environmental accountability of a super-expensive performance SUV that may never head off-road is questionable, but that is precisely what start-up British vehicle manufacturer Eterniti plans to reveal as its debut model at next month’s Frankfurt motor show.

Not to be confused with the Infiniti luxury brand that Nissan will launch in Australia next April, London-based Eterniti yesterday announced its surprising plan to reveal an exclusive new luxury crossover at Frankfurt on September 13.

So far Eterniti has revealed no details beyond this fanciful sketch of a coupe-like five-door crossover wagon and a moody teaser video via its public website, which appears to name the mysterious new SUV the ‘Hemera’.

“A storm is brewing…,” says the Eterniti website. “A storm of limitless force… so powerful… so intense… the storm will hit you… Frankfurt International Motor Show, 14th September 2011. For a world without limits… Hemera.”An Eterniti press release issued in the UK yesterday simply said: “A new luxury car brand is coming. A different kind of luxury car brand. A luxury car brand from London. Eterniti Motors.”According to Britain’s Autocar, however, Eterniti plans to beat to market upcoming rivals from Bentley and Aston Martin’s born-again Lagonda brand by producing at least 100 annual examples of a top-end luxury SUV with a pricetag of around £150,000 ($A235,000).

Autocar says that although the high-performance Hemera crossover will be based on an existing platform from another unnamed car-maker, Eterniti also plans a range of other future models, including a supercar designed completely in-house.

Eterniti is expected to reveal more details about the Hemera and the people behind the British-registered company, which is said to be backed by a group of international investors, in the lead up to Europe’s largest motor show in mid-September.
