Dodge embarks on latest Journey

BY MARTON PETTENDY | 8th Mar 2010

THE first of a number of model upgrades has been announced by Chrysler Australia, in the form of the 2010MY Dodge Journey.

Additions across the seven-seat people-mover range, pricing for which remains unchanged, include active front head restraints, tinted ‘sunscreen’ glass and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls.

There are no mechanical changes to the Journey line-up, which continues to open with the 136kW/256Nm 2.7-litre petrol V6-powered SXT ($36,990) and also comprises the similarly engined R/T ($41,990) and the diesel-powered RT CRD flagship ($45,990).

All variants remain available exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission, which in petrol models helps return average combined fuel consumption of 10.3 litres per 100km.

Fitted with a 103kW/310Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine, Chrysler says the Dodge Journey R/T CRD delivers best-in-class power, torque, acceleration and fuel consumption – of 6.7L/100km.

Electronic stability and traction control, ABS brakes with brake assist, twin front, front-side and side curtain airbags and seatbelt pretensioners also remains standard.

“The Dodge brand was one of the few brands to finish in the black last year,” said Chrysler Australia managing director, Gerry Jenkins. “This year the brand will again play an important role with key models such as Nitro, Journey and the soon to be updated Caliber.”
