HYUNDAI Excel, Proton Satria, Kia Mentor, Daewoo Lanos - all are striving players in the teeming entry level new car market where the ruling factor is price, and price alone. The Daewoo Lanos has been struggling for attention in the class but a recent upgrade should make more people take notice. Top of the new line is a three-door Sport version that gets a bigger engine, a tidy body kit and jazzy interior in an attempt at hot-hatch classification. The latest car is certainly better on the road than its predecessor with improved suspension and more engine response but it is no Peugeot 206 GTi. And, like many small cars today, it is not exactly cheap either.
