New Citroen C4 here in November

CITROEN will reintroduce the C4 nameplate to the Australian market within two months – this time as a swoopy, compact SUV.

The 2022 Citroen C4 will go on sale locally from late November, slotting between the C3 hatch and C5 Aircross medium SUV in the French brand’s Aussie line-up.

Citroen Australia says the C4 – which rides on a stretched version of the 208’s CMP platform – will be offered as a single, highly specified model, powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine developing 114kW/240Nm and driving the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The news confirms that Australia will not receive the all-electric eC4 at launch, nor will it get the low-output petrol (75kW) or turbo-diesel models offered in Europe.

Citroen says improved ride and handling characteristic join uprated cabin insulation to provide a significantly better on-road experience.

Considerable improvements have also been made to cargo and cabin storage (of which there are 16 different compartments) with the C4 now providing 380 litres of cargo space in five-seat mode.

While the brand has yet to confirm equipment details for the new-generation, it has promised the SUV will include its ‘advanced comfort’ seats, a comprehensive array of driver assistance and safety technologies, 360-degree camera, 10-inch touchscreen infotainment array and keyless entry with push-button ignition.

Local pricing for the new Citroen C4 is yet to be revealed, however the model’s positioning suggests it will retail for close to $40,000, placing it in direct competition with Mazda’s CX-30 G20 Astina (from $39,190) and newly arrived Renault Arkana Intens (from $37,490).

“We’re delighted to be expanding the Citroen range in Australia, and the C4 is the perfect addition,” Citroen Australia general manager Kate Gillis said.

“The versatility, unrivalled comfort, and original design of the Citroen C4 will no doubt appeal to the discerning Australian consumer.”

The new C4 measures 4360mm long, 1800mm wide, 1525mm tall and rides on a 2670mm wheelbase with 156mm of ground clearance.

Citroen Australia will detail full specification and pricing for its new C4 closer to the model’s local launch in late November.
