UNLIKE the unfortunate Neon, the PT Cruiser is available with a "proper" automatic transmission incorporating four ratios where the Neon has only three.

The auto includes adaptive shifting that "learns" driver behaviour and operates accordingly, and has a measure of intelligence to discourage gearbox "hunting" when driving on hilly terrain. The auto's ratios are widely spaced to help spread the speed range covered. Like the Neon, base transmission is a five-speed manual.
