GM ups Silverado warranty, price

GENERAL Motors Special Vehicles (GMSV) has given the Chevrolet Silverado line-up a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty from October 1, up from three years/100,000km, but prices have risen by as much as $4000.

 

In the official announcement, GMSV outlined that the warranty covers owners whether they are “working, touring, or towing”, offering peace of mind for commercial operators wanting full-fat coverage.

 

The three-model Silverado line-up now beats out competitor models like the Ram 1500 and 2500 lines which are offered with a three-year/100,000km warranty, and while the Toyota Tundra is offered with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty for recreational use, commercial operators are capped at 160,000km.

 

Meanwhile Ford’s F-150 also comes with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty with no strings attached.

 

While the warranty offers peace of mind for would-be customers, GMSV has hiked prices across the line-up, with only the ZR2 model scoring extra features with new Front Park Assist technology.

 

The base Silverado 1500 LTZ Premium is listed from $134,500 (up $4000), the 1500 ZR2 from $144,900 (up $1400) and the big dog 2500 HD from $168,000 (up $1500).

“Whether they’re towing or touring, working hard or on a weekend away, the Silverado’s warranty coverage now matches their appetite for adventure, no matter where or how far they go.

 

“The Silverado is a vehicle with a reputation forged by strength, durability and trust, and its passionate owners know they can rely on their truck to get the job done, no matter how tough. This change cements that reputation even further.”

 

At the time of reporting, other GMSV models, the Chevrolet Corvette models and GMC Yukon Denali, retain a three-year warranty.
