Five-star safety for Chery Tiggo 7 Pro

BY MATT BROGAN | 4th Jan 2024

CHERY has scored top marks in the latest round of ANCAP safety testing with its Tiggo 7 Pro SUV achieving a five-star crash test result against the latest 2023-2025 test criteria.

According to ANCAP, local testing of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro demonstrated a good balance of all-round performance, with the vehicle achieving a 88 per cent score in the Adult Occupant Protection section, an 87 per cent score in the Child Occupant Protection section, a 72 per cent score in the Vulnerable Road User Protection section, and an 86 per cent score in the Safety Assist section.

ANCAP remarked that the standard fitment of dual frontal airbags, side chest-protecting airbags, side head-protecting airbags (covering the first- and second rows) and a driver’s knee airbag, in addition to the standard fitment of a centre airbag, helped considerably in protecting occupants from serious injury in the event of a collision.

Physical crash protection of adult and child occupants was listed as Good, however testing identified an area where protection could be improved through enhanced restraint design, the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro recording Weak results for the chest of the driver in the frontal offset and oblique pole tests.

The standard fitment of AEB covering the full range of current test scenarios, as well as lane support system with active lane keep assist, lane departure warning, and emergency lane keeping also proved beneficial to the model’s overall crash test result.

Tests of the AEB car-to-car system showed Good levels of performance, with Good levels of performance also recorded in car-to-car lane support tests.

Submersion testing showed the Chery Tiggo 7 was capable of allowing the doors and windows to be opened for the predetermined time set by ANCAP, the vehicle also offering a safety escape hammer to assist with emergency window exit.

“2023 has been a record year for new car sales, and coupled with the new ANCAP safety ratings published this year we have seen coverage of a mix of brands, price-points and powertrains from both mainstream and emerging brands,” said ANCAP chief executive officer, Carla Hoorweg.

“This broadens the choice for consumers wanting to prioritise safety. Next year we’re expecting to see further choice for consumers with a number of new high-selling models entering the market.”

Chery Australia managing director Lucas Harris said the latest result underscores the manufacturer’s commitment to excellence in automotive safety.

“We are delighted to receive the prestigious five-star ANCAP safety rating for the Tiggo 7 Pro,” he said.

“Chery places a high emphasis on safety, and this acknowledgment highlights our steadfast dedication to delivering vehicles that adhere to the most stringent safety standards, offering assurance and peace of mind to our customers.”

The five-star ANCAP safety rating applies to all variants of the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro sold in Australia.
