Buick Invicta no idle concept

BY GEORGIA OCONNELL | 7th May 2008

GENERAL Motors has revealed that its Buick Invicta concept car previews the look of the next-generation LaCrosse, a mid-sized model sold in the US, China and other markets.

GM product chief Bob Lutz wrote on the GM FastLane corporate blog last week that the Invicta “shows where Buick design is headed, both in China and North America, and gives you a strong hint at what the next-generation LaCrosse might look like”.

The confirmation contradicts comments made by GM China boss Kevin Wale, whotold GoAuto on the eve of last month’s Beijing motor show, where the Invicta made its global debut, that: “these are Buick cars that we are getting ready for Buick in China, and that’s the beginning and end of the story … you can’tdraw the extension that these cars automatically provide the basis for specific products”.

Mr Lutz confirmed the LaCrosse will share its mid-sized underpinning with future models from other GM brands, indicating it will share the samefront/all-wheel drive Epsilon II platform that will be christened by the new Vauxhall Insignia.
