Melbourne show: Bolwell rides again

BY JAMES STANFORD | 3rd Mar 2008

THE Bolwell Car Company made its long-awaited return to Australia, presenting a new-age version of the Nagari sportscar at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre this morning.

Sales targets are yet to be determined but, no matter how popular the new Nagari proves to be, the Melbourne-based company will produce no more than 25 per annum.

Created by Campbell Bolwell, the Nagari pays homage to the original 1970s machine with its curved, rising hip-line, but also takes on a more modern supercar style.

With a carbon-fibre tub, fibreglass panels and other light materials, Bolwell has managed to keep the weight of the Nagari pegged at 920kg. Powering the show car is a Toyota-sourced supercharged quad-cam V6.

The final specification of the engine will be determined closer to production. Either way, the car will use a six-speed sequential gearbox. Pricing is yet to be locked in, but Bolwell predicts a starting price “north of $200,000”.
