BMW X7 goes exclusive with Dark Shadow Edition

BMW Australia has unveiled two new super limited-edition offerings to its flagship X7 SUV line-up, each carrying the Dark Shadow Edition moniker with the intention of adding some extra visual and materialistic flair to the brand’s biggest family hauler.

Priced from $188,900 and $215,900 driveaway respectively, the Dark Shadow Editions build on the standard spec of the X7 xDrive 30d M Sport and M50i variants with only five examples of each set to make it Down Under from a global production run of 500 units.

Due here in March next year, the Dark Shadow Editions feature a unique exterior look comprised of BMW Individual Frozen Arctic Grey metallic paint, black 22-inch V-spoke alloy wheels, BMW Individual High-Gloss Shadow Line trim pieces and darkened window tinting.

Inside the cabin, the interior has been decked out in ‘Night Blue’ including the Merino leather upholstery, Alcantara headliner and BMW Individual Walknappa ‘cockpit horizon’.

The new colour scheme is then complemented by the BMW Individual ‘Fineline Black’ interior surface and contrasted against by aluminium trim inserts.

The gearshifter, iDrive controller and starter button are all finished with CraftedClarity crystal glass while an ‘Edition Dark Shadow’ badge adorns the centre console.

Neither of the Dark Shadow Editions have had any mechanical changes made under the bonnet, meaning the xDrive 30d M Sport version continues to develop 195kW/620Nm courtesy of its turbo-diesel 3.0-litre straight six-cylinder while the M50i’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 petrol mill continues to churn out 390kW/750Nm.

For those of you with memories for fine details, this is not the first time the ‘Dark Shadow’ name has been associated with or available on a BMW, with the nomenclature historically tied to some of the darkened exterior features and inserts available within certain packages.

The X7 Dark Shadow Edition is however the first time the title has been attributed to its own dedicated edition or package with BMW saying it “premieres BMW Individual special project offerings”.

BMW has sold 786 new X7s so far this year ending November, accounting for 23.7 per cent of the $100,000-plus upper-large SUV segment – 209 units more than it managed over the same period last year.
